Leading Democrat In Over Her Head

Another Democrat has gotten into hotwater against someone way out of her league.

In addition to being qualified in the field of matrimony, having been married three times, Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., also fancies herself an expert on the Logan Act.

In what has proven to be a common theme among the radical left, Omar came to the defense of former CIA director John Brennan after the liberal ideologue criticized the death of an Iranian scientist behind the Islamic Republic’s military nuclear program.

Calling the shooting “a criminal act” that was “highly reckless,” Brennan tweeted a little advice to the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism: “Iranian leaders would be wise to wait for the return of responsible American leadership on the global stage & to resist the urge to respond against perceived culprits.”

Journalist Glenn Greenwald responded to that tweet by referencing the “abusive” treatment of former national security adviser Mike Flynn, asking if the FBI “should investigate Brennan for Logan Act violations? ”

Responding to criticism, Greenwald tweeted the Logan Act is “about undermining current US foreign policy – it doesn’t matter in the slightest if you do it privately or publicly.”

Omar responded to Greenwald’s remarks to argue that Brennan’s tweet “wouldn’t constitute a violation of the Logan Act” because it was a “one-sided communication and even if directed at a foreign power, seems to fall outside the statute’s scope.”

As the progressive left often do, the Muslim lawmaker played judge and jury, declared that Brennan was not guilty, saying “even with a variety of interpretations, this episode isn’t a Logan Act violation.”

Greenwald came back with a blistering response, noting “two things I never thought I’d see,” the first being Omar, who came to America as a Somali refugee, “defending John Brennan, who bombed and killed civilians in numerous countries including Somalia,” and the second being Omar “defending an old, repressive law designed to criminalize dissent from US Foreign Policy.”

“Welcome to Trump-era politics,” Greenwald added, for effect.

Omar replied by calling the journalist’s observations “a weird assertion,” dismissing his remarks as “simply ludicrous” — a similar response seen from Omar amid claims that she married her biological brother.

The back and forth continued with these retorts:

The Logan Act is an obscure 1799 statute that bars private citizens from interfering with diplomatic relations between the United States and foreign countries — actions John Kerry engaged in throughout the Trump administration in regard to Iran.

The law has never been successfully applied in the criminal prosecution of someone, but the FBI, under the corrupt leadership of former director James Comey, employed it to squeeze Trump’s former national security adviser Mike Flynn.

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:

  1. Kamala Harris, (and especially) Obama, et al should keep quiet, as often when they open their mouths, what comes out of them is not at all pleasing!
    Sincerely, Frances Weingarten
