Just weeks after comedian and actor Jack Black headlined a Los Angeles fundraiser for Joe Biden, Black has canceled his band Tenacious D’s Australian tour. This came after backlash from bandmate Kyle Gass made a not-at-all-funny birthday wish on stage, just one day after the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump occurred. After the on-stage outrage took place, Black canceled the tour, the future of the band is now in doubt, and Australian politicians are calling for their deportation.
At Sunday’s concert in Sydney, Australia, Jack Black and the crowd sang “Happy Birthday” to the band’s other frontman, Kyle Gass. At the end of the song, Black asked Gass to make a birthday wish. Gass’s birthday wish drew gasps and boos from the crowd.
“Don’t miss Trump next time,” said the morbidly obese comedian who hasn’t produced anything funny since around 2005.
The condemnation of Gass’s heartfelt and honest comment was immediate. On Monday, Australian federal senator Ralph Babet called Tenacious D’s remarks disgusting, filthy, and evil.
“This was not a joke, he was deadly serious when he wished for the death of the President,” said Senator Babet. “Anything less than a deportation is an endorsement of the shooting and the attempted assassination of Donald J. Trump.”
That same night, the band’s sold-out performance at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre in New South Wales was canceled. By Tuesday, when calls for the band’s immediate deportation were growing, Jack Black took to social media to issue a non-apology apology. He also announced that the rest of the Australian tour had now been canceled.
While he said that he doesn’t condone political violence, which is an incredibly low bar for an American, Black never actually said he was sorry for what his big, fat bandmate had said.
“All future creative plans are on hold,” he announced.
Just a few weeks ago, Black headlined a Hollywood fundraiser for Joe Biden with actor George Clooney. Black made an absolute fool of himself shilling for Biden. At the end of the fundraiser, Joe Biden’s brain froze in front of every. He had no clue where he even was. Barack Obama had to grab Biden like a dog and lead him off the stage.
Before you think that Jack Black has had a change of heart and he’s going to suddenly vote for Donald Trump this November, that’s not what’s happening. Black is a committed communist in his personal life. What’s really happening is that it would cost him a ton of money to continue his Australian tour after this.
Bands, comedians, or other acts that perform at major concert venues have to put up an insurance bond ahead of time. After Kyle Gass’s non-funny wish for Donald Trump’s death, all the concert venues in Australia started receiving thousands of phone calls and complaints. Insurance companies view these types of events as having the potential for a bombing or mass shooting in response to public outrage. It would have cost Tenacious D an arm and a leg just to cover the insurance costs for the rest of the tour.
Money is Jack Black’s real motivation in canceling the rest of the tour.
It’s too bad, really. Tenacious D used to be legitimately funny and relevant almost 20 years ago. Their music has been featured in the family-friendly “Kung Fu Panda” movies. Their song “Tribute” will remain as one of the all-time great comedy send-ups of “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” by the Charlie Daniels Band. Now they’re just a sad, pathetic, old, irrelevant, fat pair of morons with no original material and who can only parrot the approved Hollywood narrative about Donald Trump.
Sad!
