This story should enrage every US military member who had their career destroyed for refusing to follow Joe Biden’s COVID vaccine mandate. A US Army soldier who defected to North Korea was given a slap on the wrist and will serve no additional time in jail for committing treason, possession of child porn, and other crimes.
US Army soldier Travis King was serving in South Korea when he was jailed for two months for assaulting an officer. While he was in jail, officers found sexual images of children in his possessions. After he was released from custody, King was supposed to be transported back to Fort Bliss in the US to face disciplinary action.
King was escorted to customs, but instead of getting on the plane back to America, the army says he ducked into a tourist group headed to a village near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). King then ran across the DMZ and defected to North Korea. The North Koreans held him in jail for 71 days and then turned him back over to the US. They apparently couldn’t stand him either.
Travis King was then offered a plea deal by military prosecutors. They agreed to drop the charge of child porn, assaulting an officer, and eight other charges, if he’d plead guilty to a single count of treason. King took the deal and the military judge sentenced him to time served. He was dishonorably discharged from the Army and didn’t spend a single additional day in jail for his crimes.
